(OCTOBER 16, 2026) — CVHEC has expanded its membership to 29 institutions of higher education in its 10-county region with the addition of the Teachers College of San Joaquin this week.
At its Oct. 14 fall meeting, the CVHEC Board of Directors unanimously approved the application submitted by the college that was founded in 2009 by the San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE)
The Teachers College of San Joaquin, which serves over 1,000 students who work across 200-plus districts in a 14-county region of California, is the only regionally accredited institution of higher education that is a division within a county office of education.
TCSJ provides a variety of options for those who wish to pursue a career in the field of education: Teaching and Administrative Service Credentials, Teaching and Administrative Induction, six Master of Education concentrations, as well as non-degree programs.
Dr. Girlie Hale, TCSJ president, said the college’s mission and work are closely aligned with CVHEC’s commitment to expanding access to higher education and strengthening the regional workforce across the Central Valley.
“We view CVHEC membership as an opportunity to both contribute to, and benefit from, a collaborative network of institutions focused on regional impact,” President Hale said in the college’s application.
“TCSJ is eager to engage in efforts that expand educator pipelines, strengthen transfer and pathway alignment, and support data-informed strategies that advance educational attainment and workforce readiness. We would be honored to be selected to join CVHEC and contribute to its collective efforts to serve the Central Valley.”
Dr. Benjamín Durán, CVHEC’s executive director, noted the addition of TCSJ “underscores the value of the consortium as both a unifier of the region’s higher education community under one voice and a convenor as it strives towards its mission to increase the college-going rate in the Central Valley.
“We welcome President Hale to the CVHEC Board of Directors and look forward to formally seating her at our Winter board meeting in February,” Dr. Durán said.
TCSJ first joined forces with CVHEC at the 2026 Higher Ed Summit in April when it signed on as an event sponsor and sent a delegation to participate led by Pres. Hale.
